Amb Shiferaw, IOM Official Discuss Support for Ethiopian Workers in Bahrain

ADDIS ABABA – The Consul General of Ethiopia to Bahrain Ambassador Shiferaw Geneti held discussions with Mohamed El Zarkani, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) chief of mission in Bahrain, on Sunday.

“The two sides discussed the issue of protecting the rights of Ethiopian workers living in Bahrain as well as the support that IOM can provide to citizens who are in shelters and whose cases are being pursued by various judicial institutions,” said the ministry of foreign affairs (MoFA) in a statement.

Ambassador Shiferaw urged the IOM to assist Ethiopian citizens who are victims of labor exploitation and other problems.

He also informs the IOM that a budget proposal for the expenses of vulnerable citizens will be prepared soon.

In a response, the IOM representative Mohamed stated that he will work closely with the Ethiopian Consulate General and provide the necessary support to the workers who have experienced human trafficking, labor exploitation and other difficulties, per MoFA.
