IGAD Leaders to Discuss Issues Critical to Regional Stability

ADDIS ABABA – Leaders of the east African regional bloc IGAD are set to hold a summit in a bid to tackle a host of issues critical to regional peace and security.

Djibouti City will host the 14th Ordinary Session of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government on Monday.

The Assembly will “discuss a range of issues critical to the region’s peace, security, and development,” said the bloc in a statement today.

It will provide an opportunity for member states to review the progress made in addressing the issues and discuss new strategies for achieving sustainable development in the region, the bloc says.

The summit is expected to produce a joint communiqué outlining the outcomes of the discussions and the way forward for the region.

The Assembly is the supreme policy making organ of the Authority. It determines the objectives, guidelines and programs for the Secretariat.
