Ethiopia learns Opponent in U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has learned its qualifying opponent for the U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers as the road to the global showpiece officially begins.

The draw for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup was officially conducted by CAF on Thursday, 8 June at the CAF Headquarters.

The first six nations with the lowest rankings will take center stage in a round-robin format between 1–10 September. The victors of this round will then move to the second round of the qualifiers.

The Ethiopian U20 side will join the competition in the second round where they will face the winners of the Equatorial Guinea and Libya match.

In other fixtures, Equatorial Guinea will play Libya, while Togo take on Guinea Bissau, with Mauritius facing off against Chad.

All eyes will be glued on the exciting west African derby when Senegal face off with Mali in what promises to be two thrilling rounds of African women’s football.

Accorrsing to Caf, Semi-Finalists of the last edition FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, Nigeria face Burundi in another interesting tie to look forward to. Ghana in the meantime will await the winners of the clash between Togo and Guinea Bissau.

These second qualifying round matches will take place from between 6-15 October, with the winners joining the third round of qualifiers scheduled between 12–19 November 2023.

The four countries that emerge from the next round will then face each other in a round-robin format to determine two representatives for Africa at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
