City Unveils Statue of the late Ethiopian Army Chief Gen Seare

ADDIS ABABA – A statue of the late Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) General Seare Mekonnen has been unveiled in the capital.

The inauguration ceremony on Saturday was attended by Defense Minister Abraham Belay, Addis Ababa city mayor Adanech Abiebie, family members and colleagues of the late Gen. Se’are.

The monument and a memorial park were built alongside the road that links the Rwanda Area and Atlas. The road was also named as General Seare Street in June 2020.

Mayor Adanech described the late General Seare as “a great leader” who fought for equality and justice as well as the unity of Ethiopia in his lifetime.

The veteran General served as head of ENDF’s Northern Command and the military’s joint education and training department.

He was appointed as the Chief of Staff of ENDF in May 2018, and served until his death on 22 June 2019.
