US Secretary of State Blinken Starts visit to Ethiopia

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has begun his visit to Ethiopia today as part of a two-nation tour in Africa.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mesganu Arga received Blinken upon his arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on Tuesday evening.

Blinken will meet senior officials to discuss issues of common concerns, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The implementation of the peace deal signed between the federal government and TPLf following a two-year conflict is expected to be the ain focus of the visit.

Secretary Blinken will also meet with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat.

The meeting will also give the chance “to follow up several issues raised in discussions during the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit last December, as per the US assistant Secretary of state for Africa.

Belinken will then visit Niger where he plans to shore up efforts to counter the expansion of jihadist groups in the Sahel.
