Demeke Holds talks with AUC Chair Faki

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen on Thursday conferred with AU Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat in Niger’s capital, Niamey.

According to the Ministry of Foreign affairs, the two sides met on the margins of the Africa Union Extraordinary Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification in Niamey.

Deputy Prime Minister Demeke expressed his gratitude for the critical role AU has played in the signing of the Pretoria Peace deal between the Government of Ethiopia and TPLF.

Demeke also lauded the AU for its principled positions in the course of the conflict in the North and later in the negotiations in Pretoria and Nairobi.

The Government of Ethiopia is committed to the full implementation of the peace deal, Demeke reaffirmed.

AU Commission Chairman Moussa Faki praised Ethiopian leadership for its trust in the AU initiatives and its mechanisms.

The Pretoria agreement is a typical example of how Africa can solve its problems, Faki further said.
