Telebirr to Ease Payment for online Govt Services

ADDIS ABABA – Ethio Telecom has agreed to enable customers to pay for online services of two government institutions via a telebirr-based digital payment system.

The telco signed the partnership agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Accounting Auditing Board of Ethiopia (AABE) on Friday.

The agreement enabled Ethio Telecom to integrate its Telebirr-based digital payment platform with MoFA and AABE online services.

The telco collaborated with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MoIT) to integrate the digital payment system with online services.

Ethi Telecom’s Telebirr currently has 23.4 million subscribers, making a total value of over 50.97 billion Birr transactions since its launch in May 2021.

The telco says customers seeking document authentication from MoFA, or for AABA’s issuance of a new certificate of registration, renewal, and other services can settle service fees with ease.

State Minister at MoIT, Uria Ali said the agreement signed today is a testimony of the efforts to establish full-fledged online government services in line with the digital Ethiopia strategy.

The state minister noted that the Government Electronic Services Portal has been visited by more than 2.2m people since its establishment.

How it works

According to the telco, the customers of the two institutions can easily settle their service payments by primarily visiting the e-service portal (eservices.gov.et).

They, then, log in to the e-service page with their account, select service providing organization and service type as well as fill out the online application form following the application and service payment procedures, accordingly.
