ADDIS ABABA – The Halal Food and Tourism exhibition and forum, which is part of the Eid-to-Eid program, was officially opened on Monday.
The three-day event was opened in the presence of Ministers and other senior officials, members of the diaspora, and religious leaders.
At the opening of the expo, Agriculture Minister Oumer Hussien said the expo is of paramount importance in showcasing Ethiopia’s immense potential in the halal industry sector.
The spending on halal tourism is currently said to reach beyond four trillion USD, Oumer noted.
He stressed that the geographical proximity of Ethiopia to the Middle East and the Arab world could enable the country to be a leading participant in the industry.
Ethiopia, a country with huge livestock resources, has a very great potential to penetrate the Middle East market in meat and other agricultural export products, he pointed out.
Tourism officials call on the private sector and Ethiopians in the diaspora to play a crucial role to promote and engage Ethiopia in the industry.
The three-day-long Expo at Sheraton Addis displays products of food, beverages, tourism, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, among others products to show the potential of Ethiopia in the industry.
