New Saudi Ambassador Presents Credentials to Ethiopian Foreign Ministry

ADDIS ABABA – Newly appointed ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Ethiopia, Dr. Fahad Alhumaydani Almotairi, has presented his credentials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) today.

Dr. Fahad Almotairi replaced Ambassador Sami Jamil Abdullah, who completed his term in Addis Ababa in March 2022.

After receiving a copy of his credentials, Protocol Affairs Director-General at MoFA Demeke Atnaf congratulated Fahad on his new appointment and briefed him on several regional issues.

The Director General also lauded the long-standing and historic relationship between the two nations in their discussion.

The solid foundation for the bilateral relationship was laid with the First Hijra in the 7th century when Ethiopia welcomed the followers of the Prophet Mohammed by providing sanctuary and hospitality, he added.

Demeke also extended his gratitude to the Saudi government for its support of the ongoing repatriation of Ethiopians from the Gulf nation and request to assist with the rehabilitation and integration process.

Both exchanged views on how to further deepen and bolster bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, development financing, as well as implementing a labor agreement, among others, according to MoFA.

The new Saudi Arabian ambassador also expressed his desire for the consolidation and strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
