Ethiopia Logs Zero Covid Deaths for over a Week
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded zero daily Covid-19 related deaths for more than a week, data from the Ministry of Health report shows.
The Ministry last confirmed a Covid-induced fatality on July 26, during which one patient succumbed to the coronavirus.
At least 7, 568 people have lost their lives to the virus since the pandemic hit the nation, said the Ministry in the report issued on Wednesday evening.
The report also shows the nation has logged 59 new Covid cases and 639 recoveries in the last twenty-four hours.
The patients diagnosed with the coronavirus today have brought the national confirmed total to 492,375.
At least 470,427 of these patients have already recuperated from the disease, said the ministry, after adding 639 recoveries on Wednesday.
The nation now has 14, 378 active cases of Covid-19. At 20 patients, who are seriously sick, are getting treatments in hospitals, the report shows.
As part of a response to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health has been carrying out a national covid vaccine campaign since March 2021.
To date, the country has administered a total of 52.56 million doses of the covid vaccine. More than 43.1 million people have also received at least two doses, the latest report shows.
Health officials plan to take the country’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage to 60% by the end of next year.
