Covid: Ethiopia Logs 1393 Recoveries, 296 New Cases

ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Health says 1, 393 patients have recovered from Covid-19,  the highest daily recoveries recorded in Ethiopia in recent weeks.

At 296 people have also been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last twenty-four hours, reveals the ministry in its daily Covid report for Thursday, bringing the confirmed tally to 488,724.

The newly identified cases have brought the nation’s confirmed total to 488,724. And at least 461705 of them have already recovered from the acute respiratory disease, caused by a coronavirus.

The report says 11 Covid patients have been admitted to hospitals today after they become severely sick. There are now 58 severe cases in the country. 

These patients are among 19,481 confirmed active cases in the country, according to the latest Covid update. 

No additional Coronavirus-induced deaths have also been recorded in the last 24 hours, and the death toll remains at 7,536.

Health officials are strongly urging the public to follow the Covid protocols including wearing facemasks when in crowded places.

Twelve-year-olds and above as well as those who need boosters are also being urged to get vaccinated in health centers located in their vicinity. 

To date, Ethiopia has administered close to 52. million doses of the Covid vaccine. And more than 42.6 million people have also been fully vaccinated against the virus.

Health officials, who offered the first vaccine shot to the public last year in March, plan to achieve 60% COVID-19 vaccination coverage by the end of the 2023 calendar year.
