ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed has attended the ‘BRICS- Plus’ high-level dialogue on global development held virtually on Friday.
The meeting was hosted Xi Jinping, President of China, on the margins of the 14th Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) Summit.
The high-level dialogue has brought together the leaders from 17 countries, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria, and leaders of the BRICS nations.
The Prime Minister, after the meeting, said he was “pleased to attend” the BRICS Plus High-Level Dialogue.
“Such platforms followed by collective actions contribute greatly to addressing the multifaceted challenges we are faced with as a global community.” the PM noted.
During the dialogue, President Xi announced an additional 1 billion USD for global development cooperation.
“We will upgrade the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund to a Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, and add USD 1 billion to the fund on top of the USD 3 billion already committed,” Xi told the meeting.
“We will also increase input to the UN Peace and Development Trust Fund,” he said, adding that such efforts will further support cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI) initiated by him earlier.
