Ethiopia Reports 856 Covid Cases, 4 Fatalities
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has logged 856 new Covid-19 cases and four related deaths on Friday, according to a ministry of health report.
Today’s fatality figure is among the highest Ethiopia has recorded in a day in the past few months as the nation grapples with the fifth wave of the covid pandemic. The national Covid death toll currently stands at 7, 522, says the report.
The nation’s confirmed total has also reached 482, 888 after the ministry recorded 856 new cases in the past twenty-four hours.
Only 138 Covid patients have recuperated from the disease in the reported period, bringing the recovery tally to 457,483.
Three more Covid patients have also been admitted to hospitals today after they become seriously ill.
The report says the nation currently has 41 severe cases. These patients are among the 17, 881 confirmed active cases in the country.
Health officials are strongly advising the public to be vigilant while urgent all 12 years and older to get the Covid-19 vaccine shots to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
To date, Ethiopia has administered over 47.3 million doses of the Covid vaccine. Of these, 793,218 shots of the vaccine have been given to the public in the past 24 hours, the latest report says.
In the same period, the number of fully vaccinated people has also jumped by 693,442 to over 38.9 million. Ethiopia started offering the Covid vaccine to its citizens in March 2021.
