PM Abiy in Mogadishu to Attend Somalia’s New President Inauguration

ADDIS ABABA Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has today joined East African leaders in Mogadishu to attend the inaugural ceremony of the newly elected President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Mohamud was reelected as president of Somalia by the country’s legislators in an election held on the 15th of May. He previously served as Somalia’s president between 2012 and 2017.

Ethiopia was among the first nations to congratulate Mohamud on his reelection.

In his congratulatory message, Prime Minister Abiy said he “look forward to working closely with you on common bilateral and regional interests”. In Response, President Mohamud pledged to work with Ethiopia to enhance the two countries bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Abiy and his delegation on Thursday Morning left Addis Ababa for Somalia’s capital where the newly elected President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s inauguration takes place today.

Apart from PM Abiy, President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta, and Djibouti leader Omar Ismael Guelleh are in Mogadishu to witness the inauguration.

South Sudan 2nd Vice President Taban Deng Gai, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Kamal Madbouly and Uganda’s Defence Minister Vicent Bamulangaki are also among the attendants.
