PM Abiy Congratulates Newly Elected UAE President

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed send his congratulatory message to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan who was elected as United Arab Emirates (UAE) President today.

UAE’s Federal Supreme Council unanimously appointed Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mohammed as the nation’s president, on Saturday.

“I congratulate my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, on his election as President of the State,” said Prime Minister Abiy.

The PM also expressed his “sincere wishes for progress and prosperity” of the UAE under Sheikh Mohammed’s leadership.

The election took place a day after the death of his brother and the UAE’s president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at the age of 73.

The transition of power marks the third time the nation of seven sheikhdoms has selected a president since becoming an independent nation in 1971.
