Abiy Hosts Returnees from Saudi Arabia to Iftir Dinner
ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has hosted 250 Ethiopians recently repatriated from Saudi Arabia for Ifter dinner program.
The ifter dinner program was held at the Prime Minister Office on Thursday.
“In honor of Ethiopian returnees from Saudi Arabia, PM Abiy Ahmed hosted around 250 returnees for an Iftar dinner at the Office of the Prime Minister,” the PM Office said.
Ethiopia started airlifting its nationals who are living in harsh conditions in Gulf nation on March 30, 2022.
A national executive committee, under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen, is leading the repatriation effort.
It aims to bring at least 102, 000 citizens who are currently in detention centres of Saudi Arabia. More than 8, 500 Ethiopians have been repatriated, so far.
The government “will continue doing so until it’s citizens return to their homes,” said the PM Office.
Three daily flights for three days a week are set aside to repatriate citizens in the coming six months, according to the ministry of foreign affairs.
