President Sahle-work Bids Farewell to Outgoing Eritrean Ambassador
ADDIS ABABA – President Sahle-work Zewde on Thursday bade farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Eritrea in Ethiopia, Semere Ruwsom.
Ambassador Semere has been serving as Eritrea’s top diplomat in Ethiopia for over three years.
“President Sahle-work thanked the Ambassador for his contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries,” said the president office.
He became the first ambassador of Eritrea soon after the two neighboring nations restarted their diplomatic relations in 2018 following two decades of border standoff.
His appointment was made official in the same week Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki visited Addis Ababa and reopened his country’s embassy here in July, 2018.
Ethiopia and Eritrea had expelled each others’ envoys at the start of the 1998-2000 border war, which killed about 80,000 people.
