ADDIS ABABA – Nardos Bekele of Ethiopia has just been confirmed as the first woman CEO of the African Union Development Agency – AUDA-NEPAD.

Earlier this week, the Government Orientation Committee or HSGOC saw the appointment of the new CEO for AUDA-NEPAD, and formally submitted ter for African Union Assembly for endorsement.

The AU Assembly has today confirmed Nardos to lead the development agency. President of Ethiopia, Sahlework Zewde, was one of the first to Congratulate Narods for appointment.

“She brings to this position a wealth of experience acquired at the UN. Best wishes junior sis! Women deliver,” the President said.

Prior to her new appointment Nardos has been working as UN Resident Coordinator in South Africa.

She will now replace Dr Ibrahim Mayaki who served as CEO of the agency since 2009.
