Ethiopia, Russia Vow to further Boost Ties

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, met with Special envoy of Russia for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail L. Bogdanov to discuss regional and global issues.



In the meeting that took place on margins of African Union Summit Saturday. the two sides deliberated ways to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and Russia.

The two officials expressed their countries desire to further engagements in various sectors, including agriculture, energy, and technology transfer, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

According to the Ministry, Demeke and Bogdanov pledged to continue cooperating in multilateral fora to protect their interests in ways that commensurate with their friendly relations between the two nations.



They further underlined the need to resolve conflicts in Africa through political and diplomatic means in line with the fundamental principles of international law.

Demeke’s discussion with Bogdanov, who is also Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, also included issues related to the second Russia-Africa Summit, according to MoFA.
