Covid-19: Ethiopia’s Confirmed Cases Total Exceeds 445,000

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has confirmed 2, 269 fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the national confirmed cases total to more than 445, 000.

Nearly 11,000 tests were carried out in the last twenty-four hours to identify the latest positive infections, a ministry of health report says.



Additional 24 Covid-related deaths have been recorded in the reported period.

The acute respiratory disease has so far claimed 7,090 lives in the country which reported its first Covid-related death on April 15, 2020.

There are now 75, 905 confirmed active cases, says the report.

At least 443 of them are severely sick and are now getting medical treatments in hospitals.

The report also shows as many as 1,416 patients have recuperated from Covid-19, taking the recovery tally to 368, 000.

To date, Ethiopia reported 445,997 Coronavirus cases – the highest registered among the East Africa nations – after testing 4.22 million of its citizens.



As part of its efforts to control the spread of the pandemic, the government is currently offering the Covid vaccine to the public albeit at a smaller rate.

The vaccine drive, which started on March 13, 2021, has seen close to 10.96 doses of Covid-19 vaccine administered in Ethiopia.

It has also vaccinated 9.36 million of its citizens, fully, according to the ministry of health’s report for Wednesday.
