Covid-19: Ethiopia Records 2,460 New Cases, 24 Deaths
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s confirmed Covid-19 cases total has reached over 448, 000 after its health ministry reported 2,460 fresh infections on Tuesday.
A total of 12,872 people have been tested in the past twenty-four hours to identify the positive cases.
Today’s report shows a significant spike in both the number of Covid-related fatalities daily tally and severe cases in the reported period.
The country has recorded 24 Covid-related deaths Tuesday, pushing the national death toll to 7,066.
The report also puts the current severely ill Covid patients’ total at 422 – increasing by 114 as compared to the previous 24-hours.
The patients are among the 75, 076 confirmed active cases in the country, reveals the report.
The Ministry also says about 2,057 patients have recovered from the acute respiratory illness in the reported period, taking the recovery tally to 366, 584.
Ethiopia confirmed its first Coronavirus case in March, 2020, Since then it has reported a total of 448, 728 cases after testing more than 4.21 million people.
As part of the country’s response to tackle the pandemic, its health officials are now carrying out a nationwide vaccine drive.
Today’s report, however, shows only 80 doses Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the last 24-hours.
The East African nation started giving the vaccine in Ethiopia on March 13 – a week after it received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
To date, the country has provided nearly 10.96 million dose of the vaccine to the public while fully vaccinating over 9.36 million of its citizens.
