Japan Extends $12.5mln Grant in Support of IDPs in Northern Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – The government of Japan has extended an additional $12.4mln emergency aid grant for the vulnerable people, including Internally Displaced Persons in northern Ethiopia.

Its embassy in Addis Ababa said the grant will support various programs of four UN agencies including IDPs protection, provision of food and emergency non-food items in Afar, Amhara and Tigray Regional states.

Last February, the Government of Japan extended the first emergency grant aid worth $6.6 million for the similar cause.

“Japan will continue working closely with the international community towards the improvement of the humanitarian situation in Northern Ethiopia,” the embassy said.
