Ethiopia Confirms 3,793 More Coronavirus Cases

ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia has registered 3,793 more Covid-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the confirmed infections total to 386, 164, shows a ministry of health report.

About 13, 147 people have been tested in the last twenty-four hours to identify the latest positive infections, the report says.

The East African nation has also recorded five additional Covid-related fatalities and 98 recoveries in the same period, pushing the national death toll to 6,885 and recoveries tally to 351, 393.

According to the report, the severe and active cases have increased by 13 and over 3,700, respectively, as compared to the previous day.

There are now 153 seriously ill Covid-19 patients, says the report that puts the active cases tally at 27, 884.

Ethiopia, which confirmed its first case in March, 2020, has reported the highest Covid-19 caseload in the East Africa region after conducting over 4 million tests.

Vaccine Drive

Health officials are urging the public to observe the Covid protocols put in place including wearing face masks and social distancing as they push ahead with the national vaccination campaign.

To date, the country has administered more than 10.74 million doses of Covid vaccine nationwide.

Nearly 60, 000 doses of them were offered to the public in the past twenty-four, shows the Covid-19 report.

The Ministry, which started offering the Covid vaccine this year on March 13, has fully immunized close to 9.3 million.
