Ethiopia Records 157 New Coronavirus Cases, 1196 Recoveries

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s confirmed Covid-19 cases number has reached 368, 979 after its ministry of health reported 157 new infections on Monday.

The latest positive cases were identified from 4, 775 people tested in the last twenty-four hours, according to the Ministry’s Covid-19 report.

A further 11 Coronavirus-induced fatalities have also been reported in the same period, taking the death toll to 6, 630.



There are now 16, 444 active cases nationwide. Of which, 296 patients are severely sick and are receiving treatments in ICU, the report claims.

The active case count has significantly dropped after the nation reported the hives daily recoveries this month.

As many as 1,196 patients have recuperated from the acute respiratory disease, pushing the recovery tally to 345, 903, reports the ministry.

Despite a spike in recovery cases, health officials are still urging the public to observe the Covid-19 protocols put in place to tackle the pandemic including wearing face masks and social distancing.



They have also restarted their vaccination push, after a one day pause, albeit at a smaller rate.

About 220 doses of covid-19 vaccines have been offered in the last 24-hours, reveals figures from the ministry today, taking the amount of doses offered in the country so far to 5, 066, 481.

The East African started the national immunization drive on March 13, 2021. Since then, it has fully vaccinated over 3.67 million people against Coronavirus.

The campaign, which involves Johnson & Johnson, AstaraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopharm, targets to inoculate about 22 million people against Covid-19 by January.
