Covid-19: Ethiopia Registers 249 New Cases as 135 Patients Recover

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 249 new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections on Thursday, taking the national confirmed case tally to 368, 106.

The latest positive cases were identified after conducting 5, 421 tests in the last twenty-four hours, according to the Ministry of Health Covid-19 report for the day.

A further 11 Coronavirus-related deaths and 135 recoveries were also recorded in the same period, pushing the death toll to 6,583 and recoveries count to 343, 898.



Currently, there are 17, 623 active cases nationwide. Of which, the report says 357 of them are severely sick and are receiving treatments.

Health officials are still urging the public to observe the health protocols put in place to tackle the pandemic including wearing face masks as they continue to push ahead with the national immunization campaign.

In the last 24-hours, some 1, 822 doses of Covid-19 vaccine were offered to the public across the nation, reveals the Ministry’s report.



Ethiopia began its vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, it has fully inoculated more than 3.66 million people against the Covid-19 while providing a total of 5, 058, 809 doses of vaccine.

The immunisation ongoing campaign involves Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm, and targets to vaccinate about 22 million people by January.
