Ethiopia Registers 1, 218 More Covid-19 Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 1, 218 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Wednesday, bringing the confirmed case tally close to 345, 000, data from the ministry of health reveals.

The country identified the latest positive cases after testing a total of 9, 750 people in the last twenty-four hours, says today’s Covid-19 report.

A further 46 Covid-19 patients have also died in the reported period. The country’s death toll now stands at 5, 534.



Both the confirmed active and severe case totals have jumped by 704 and 26, respectively, in the past 24-hours.

Ethiopia now has 28, 079 confirmed active cases, says the report, which puts the number of seriously sick Covid-19 patients at 806.

The low number of recoveries has contributed to the rise in active case tally with the ministry reporting the recovery of only 468 patients today.

To date, Ethiopia has conducted more than 3.46 million tests and confirmed a total of 344, 322 infections. At least 310, 707 of the infected people have already recovered from the disease.

Health officials are urging the public to observe the health protocols put in place including wearing face masks, social distancing and proper hand washing while pushing ahead with its national immunization campaign.

At least 49, 600 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been offered in the last 24-hours, says the Ministry.

The East African nation started its ongoing vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, it has vaccinated close to 2.83 million people against Covid-19.
