Covid-19: Ethiopia Records 1, 759 New Cases, 31 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 1, 759 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Friday after testing 10, 238 people in the last twenty-four hours, data from the ministry of health reveals.

The latest positive cases have brought the case tally since the confirmation of the first case in March, last year, to more than 330, 000.



A further 31 people have also died due to the acute respiratory disease in the day, taking the death toll to 5, 090.

Ethiopia now has 29, 050 active cases. At least 789 of them are severely ill patients, the Ministry reports.

At least 748 patients have also recuperated from the disease in the 24-hours period, bringing the national recovery count to 296, 352.

The Ministry is still urging the public to observe the health advice put in place including wearing face masks, social distancing and proper hand washing while pushing ahead with its national immunization campaign.

On Friday, nearly 16, 000 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered in the country, according to the report.

Ethiopia launched the vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, it has vaccinated 2.96 million people against Covid-19.
