Japan Assists Disability Vocational Training Center Project in Bekoji town

ADDIS ABABA – Japan on Friday signed a grant contract for disability vocational training center in Bekoji Town of Oromia region.

The grant agreement was signed between Ito Takako, Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, and Dr. Duguma Adugna, President of Arsi University.



Japan has provided up to $89,162 US dollars (or equivalent to nearly 3.9mln birr) for the project, through the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Under this project, one new disability vocational training center equipped with furniture will be constructed in Bekoji Town, located in East Arsi Zone of Oromia.

The project aims to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and enable them to work in an improved environment.

Japan has implemented over 400 projects across Ethiopia since the GGP was introduced in 1989.

The GGP focuses on community development through supporting needy communities in such areas as education, vocational training, access to water and sanitation, economic growth, health, food security and more.
