ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian national team coach Wubetu Abate has named his final 23-member squad for the back-to-back Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.
Wubetu selected his team from nine clubs. Three clubs – St George (7), Ethiopian Coffee (4) and Fasil Kenema (4) have contributed the majority of the national team.
Shimelis Bekele, who plays for Egyptian club Misr Lel-Makkasa, has also made it into the final squade.
According to the Ethiopian Football Federation, the Walias will travel to Accra on Tuesday morning for their opening Group G match.
The Walias will take on Ghana at the Cape Coast stadium on Friday before playing Zimbabwe in Bahir Dar four days later.
Only group winners in the group that also includes South Africa, will progress to the final qualifying play-off round for the ticket to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, in Qatar
