Ethiopia Confirms 395 More Covid Cases, 2 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has confirmed 395 more novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and two related deaths on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health.

At least 7, 114 tests have been conducted to identify the positive cases in the twenty-four hours period, the Ministry said in its daily Covid-19 report.

Additional two patients also died due to the acute respiratory disease in the same period, pushing the national death toll to 4, 383.

There are 229 severely ill patients who are currently receiving medical treatment in hospitals, claims the report.

On the day, Ethiopia’s Covid caseload increased significantly and reached 12, 214.

The jump in active case number is related to the small number of recoveries registered in the past 24-hours.

Only 33 patients have recuperated from the disease, according to the ministry of health.

Ethiopia recorded its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, last year. Since then, it has conducted over 3 million tests and confirmed 280, 024 cases. At least 263, 425 of these patients have already recovered, according to the ministry of health.

The ministry also said close to 12, 000 vaccine doses were provided on the day as the country continues its immunization campaign.

Ethiopia launched its vaccination campaign on March 13 – a week after the country received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

To date, a total of 2, 204, 417 vaccine doses have been provided in the country.
