Ethiopia Records 99 COVID-19 New Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia registered 99 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, taking the nationwide confirmed case tally to 275,601, according to the Ministry of Health.

A further four deaths and 642 new recoveries from the disease were reported on the same day, taking the national counts to 4,296 and 257,429, respectively.

According to the ministry, Ethiopia currently has 13,874 active Covid-19 cases, of whom 185 are in severe health conditions.

Ethiopia identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, last year. Since It then, it has over 2.84mln tests nationwide, to confirm 255, 000 cases

On Thursday, the East African nation continued to immunize its citizens and vaccinated more than 5, 600 people against Covid-19.

As of Thursday evening, nearly 1.99mln people have been inoculated with the vaccine, according to the report.

The country started the vaccinating its citizens on March 13 – a week after it received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility. The country also received 500, 000 doses of Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine from the government of China.

Officials are now expecting to get 400, 000 from COVAX Facility soon as they plan to administer the second round of the vaccines.
