COVID-19: Ethiopia Reports 398 More Infections, 15 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 398 more Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections and 15 related deaths on Wednesday, according to ministry of health.

More than 5000 people have been tested for covid-19 to identify the positive cases in the past twenty-four hours.

In ita daily covid report, the confirmed that at least 15 people have died on the day, taking the total number of people who lost their lives due to the virus to 4, 108.



The ministry’s report also put the number of confirmed active cases in Ethiopia at 32, 854, and, of these, 459 patients are severely sick.

In the past 24-hours, the report shows at least 1, 581 patients have recovered from the respiratory disease. To date, 233, 216 people have recovered after contracting the virus.

Health officials reported the country’s first coronavirus infection on March 13, 2020. Since then, they have conducted over 2.7mln medical tests and confirmed 270, 180 cases.

Both tallies are among the highest in Africa, prompting the government to take various measures including the launch of vaccination targeting front line workers and vulnerable part of the society.

Health officials have continued to administer Covid-19 vaccines as part of their measures to tackle the pandemic.

As of Wednesday evening, close to 1.74 million people have been vaccinated.

Health officials have also launched COVID-19 vaccination campaign on March 13 after receiving the first 2.2 million vaccines from COVAX Facility.
