ADDIS ABABA – About 329 Ethiopians have been repatriated from Saudi Arabia’s city Riyadh today as the government continues to push its effort to bring more citizens back home from gulf nations.
Representative of Consular Affairs Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the returnees upon their arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
The latest returnees has taken the number of people repatriated from the gulf nation in the past 48-hours to 725.
Many youngsters from Ethiopia and other Horn of Africa countries make dangerous journey to Saudi Arabia and other rich Gulf countries via a war-torn country, Yemen, in search of better life. They, however, end up in jail for illegal entry and many have been sent home.
Ethiopia is currently bringing back its citizens from various Middle East countries in collaboration with government’s partners including IOM. In the past week alone, a total of 1136 of its citizens have been repatriated from Saudi Arabia alone.
