Over 5.8bln Seedlings Ready for Annual Tree Planting Program

ADDIS ABABA – More than 5.8 tree seedlings are being readied for planting during the upcoming Ethiopian rainy season, according to Environment Forest and Climate Change Commission.

The seedlings are part of a national program that targets to plant 6bln tree seedlings during the Kirmet Rainy season this year.



The seedlings are now being raised in 126,000 nurseries throughout the nation, Bishaw Shibabaw, head of Forestry Development at the Commission, told ENA.

The saplings will be planted on 1.9 million hectare of land through massive public participation,Ethiopia is set to plant 20 billion trees by 2024 as per the ongoing National Green Legacy Initiative which started in 2019.
