COVID-19: Ethiopia Confirms 2, 353 New Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 2, 353 additional coronavirus (Covid-19) cases over the past twenty-four hours, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.

Health officials identified the new cases after testing more than 9, 000 people for Coronavirus, which causes the deadly respiratory illness.



In the same period, 25 more people have lost their lives due to COVID-related complications.

The latest figure has pushed the death toll recorded so far in the country to 2, 915, according to the Ministry’s daily COVID report for the day.

The report also shows a slight decrease in the rate of hospitalizations, which has decreased by more than 20, as compared to the preceding day.

There are now 829 patients who are receiving medical treatment in hospital beds after they become severely ill.

These patients are among the 48, 468 confirmed active cases registered nationwide.

In the past 24-hours, health officials also reported only 493 patients have recuperated after contracting the virus. The recovery tally is now at 159, 929.

The East African nation confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has recorded a total of 211, 314 infections after conducting more than 2.37mln tests.
