COVID-19: Ethiopia Confirms 2, 142 More Infections, 15 Deaths
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered at least 2, 142 new coronavirus (Covid-19) infections and 15 related deaths, reported the Ministry of Health on Saturday.
In its Covid-19 report for the day, the Ministry said nearly 8, 700 tests have been conducted in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases.
On the day, 15 more people have lost their lives as a result of COVID-related complications, pushing the death toll to 2, 784.
The number of hospitalizations has also increased by more than 10 as compared to the preceding day.
The report said 780 patients are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital beds after their cases become severe.
These patients are among the 42, 772 confirmed active cases in the country.
In the past 24-hours, health officials said 728 people have recovered after contracting the coronavirus which causes the deadly respiratory illness.
The figure has taken the recovery tally to 153, 236.
Ethiopia identified its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 198, 794 infections after conducting over 2.32mln tests.
