COVID-19: Ethiopia Records 733 New Infections, 15 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 726 more COVID-19 infections on Monday, bringing the confirmed cases tally in the country to close to 148, 800, the Ministry of Health reported.

Over 5, 000 tests have been conducted on the day to identify the new positive cases.

The ministry, in its Monday Covid report, also reported 15 people have died due to the respiratory illness caused by coronavirus.

The latest figure has brought the total number of deaths in the country, thus far, to 2, 209.
Data from the report also shows the rising number of hospitalizations in the country.

According to the report, at least 307 patients are currently in hospital after getting seriously ill, showing an increase by more than a dozen when compared with the preceding day.

The patents are among the 16, 668 confirmed active cases in the country, says the report which indicates only 207 people have recovered from the disease on the day.

Ethiopia has so far conducted more than 2mln tests – the most tests in Africa following South Africa and Morocco – and confirmed 147, 825 Covid infections. Nearly 129, 000 of these patients have already recovered.
