COVID-19: Ethiopia Records 726 New Infections, 10 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 726 more COVID-19 infections on Friday, bringing the confirmed cases tally in the country to more than 140, 800, the Ministry of Health said.

More than 5, 000  tests have been conducted over the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases, according to the ministry’s Covid report for Friday.

Health officials have also reported the death of 10 patients on the day due to the respiratory illness caused by coronavirus, taking the death toll in the country, thus far, to 2, 136.

At least 225 patients are currently in hospital after getting seriously ill, the report shows. The number of hospitalisation has increased by more than a dozen over the past twenty four hours.

The patents are among the 13, 504 confirmed active cases in the country, according to the daily report.

It also says at least 999 people have recovered during the past 24-hours after contracting the virus.

Ethiopia has conducted the most COVID-19 tests in Africa, following South Africa and Morocco, according to recent figures from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

To date, the country has conducted nearly 2mln tests and confirmed 140, 883 covid infections. Over 125, 241 of these patients have already recovered.
