COVID-19: Ethiopia Confirms Over 300 New Cases, 7 Deaths

ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopia has recorded 307 more COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, bringing the confirmed cases tally to more than 132, 000.

Health officials identified the new positive cases after conducting more than 4, 000 tests on the day.



A further seven covid-related deaths have also been registered, according to the ministry’s daily COVID-19 report. The latest figure has put the total number of people who passed away due to the virus since April last year to 2, 044.

The report also shows the number of hospitalizations has remained relatively similar from what it was on Tuesday.

There are at least 232 patients currently in hospitals after becoming severely ill due to the respiratory illness. These patients are among 12, 636 confirmed active cases in the country, the ministry said.

The report also shows a significant increase in daily recovery cases with a total of 961 people have recuperated after contracting the virus on Wednesday.

Only 54 patients recovered in the previous day.

Since the pandemic started in the country, the East African nation has tested nearly 1.9mln people and confirmed a total of 132, 034 infections. At least 117, 353 of these cases have already recovered.

The East African Nation reported its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020.
