COVID-19: Ethiopia’s Confirmed Case Tally Nears 130, 000

ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopia has recorded 467 more COVID-19 infections on Thursday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to nearly 130, 000, according to the Ministry of Health.

Health officials have identified the new positive cases after they tested nearly 5, 000 people for coronavirus, which causes the deadly disease, in the past twenty-four hours.

Additional two covid-related deaths have also been registered during the period, according to the ministry’s daily COVID-19 report. The latest figure has put the total number of people who passed away due to the virus to 2, 008.

The report also shows today’s number of hospitalization has increased by 19 when compared to the preceding day.

At least 229 patients are currently in hospitals after becoming severely ill due to the deadly respiratory illness, reported health officials. These patients are among 13, 163 confirmed active cases in the country.

Over the past 24-hours, at least 182 patients have recovered from Covid-19, taking the recovery tally to 114, 749.

Since the pandemic started in the country, the East African nation has tested more than 1.87mln people and confirmed a total of 129, 922 infections. Ethiopia reported its first coronavirus case on March 13, 2020.
