Kalkidan Becomes First Ethiopian Captain of Airbus A350
ADDIS ABEBA – Kalkidan Girma has become the first Ethiopian female Captain of Airbus A350, according to Ethiopian Airlines.
“Ethiopian Airlines congratulates Captain Kalkidan Girma on her achievement as the first Ethiopian Female Captain of Airbus A350,” the Airlines said.
Prior to her current promotion, she has been a Captain on the Boeing 737.
Ethiopian has been operating all-female flights since 2015 and Captain Kalkidan has been a part of these flights.
The Airlines has so far flown to Bangkok, Kigali, Lagos, Buenos Aires, Oslo and Washington DC with all female crew.
Last year, Captain Kalkidan was in charge of an all-women operated flight from Addis Abeba to Oslo, Norway, which marked the International Women’s Day on March 8.
In the same year, Ethiopian reportedly agreed to acquire around 12 A350 jetliners worth almost $3 billion at the Dubai Air Show.
