Police Arrest 14 Foreigners Suspected of Drug Trafficking

ADDIS ABABA – Security officials have arrested at least 14 foreigners suspected of drug trafficking at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

Commander Mengiste-ab Beyene, deputy director of drug control operation at the Federal Police commission, told National Broadcaster that the suspects are 13 Nigerian nationals and one Brazilian woman.

They were caught while trying to transport more than 14 kilograms of cocaine from the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo to different parts of the world by hiding it in a bag and bras as well as swallowing cocaine filled capsules, he said.

The latest drugs – produced in Brazil for international drug market – would make the amount of cocaine that federal police seized and supersets arrested in the past three months to 39kg cocaine and 24, respectively.

Police also captured 36 kilograms of cannabis during the same period.
