Dashen Bank Launches New Digital Transaction Card
ADDIS ABEBA – Dashen Bank has launched on Saturday a new digital transaction gift card in collaboration with MIDROC group’s Queen Supermarket and Addis Home Depot.
Jemal Ahmed Abdu, Chief Executive Officer of Midroc Investment Group, said the card will help Ethiopia’s effort to create a cashless society.
Customers can use the digital transaction gift card when they are shopping or using service in Queen’s supermarket and Addis home depot branches.
“We hope that other supermarkets will follow suit and join using the digital transaction payment system, said Kassaye Eshetu, director of the alternate channels department of Dashen bank.
He also said the gift card has a high security system in case customers are lost or their card stolen.
This digital payment system will be implemented via Dashen Bank’s Amole Digital Banking.
Customers can recharge the gift card and use it more than once.
It took two years to adopt the technology, said the bank.
Abdulfetah Yesuf, head of Addis Abeba Trade Bureau, said the government is taking actions to bring a cashless digital transaction system in the country.
The newly launched card can be taken “as a wonderful initiative”, he added.
