Ethiopia Confirmes 16 New COVID-19 Cases, One Death

ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Health has identified 16 new coronavirus patients today as the number of confirmed cases in Ethiopia surpasses 200 mark.

The minister has also confirmed the death of a 65 years old patient due to COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.

“A 65 old Male Ethiopian female Addis Ababa who was in intensive unit has passed away today,” the Ministry said in its daily report.

The latest case has brought the number of deaths due to the virus to five.

Ethiopia reported its first case of coronavirus on 12 March and has confirmed 210 cases to date.

The number of patients surpassed 200 mark today.

The ministry’s daily report indicates laboratories across the nation conducted 2, 383 testes in the past twenty-four hours. “Sixteen of them confirmed positive for COVID-19,” reports the Ministry.

The majority (13) contacted the virus from previously confirmed case. Two are imported cases while how the remaining case infected with the virus is being investigated, says the Ministry.

All the patients identified today are Ethiopians and 13 of them are residents of Addis Ababa. The other three are from Oromia, Amhara and SNNP regional states.

Meanwhile, two patients have recovered from the virus, taking the number of recoveries to 97.
