Government Appeals for Public Support in Response to COVID-19
ADDIS ABEBA – The Ethiopian government has launched a national resource mobilization committee to coordinate efforts of gathering financial and non-financial materials for COVID-19 emergency preparedness.
The Federal government has already availed 5 billion birr to undertake COVID-19 similar mission.
“While the government has allocated a significant budget and is mobilizing resources to prepare for the worst case scenario, such periods require the effort and contribution of each individual,” said the Prime Minister office of Ethiopia.
On Sunday, Prime minister Abiy Ahmed urged the private sector and philanthropists to join in the fight against the virus. The government has now appealed to people with capacity to help to support.
“Our collective and concerted efforts to help one another in times of great need will be the only way we overcome,” the office said.
Modeling the effort to ‘keep calm and contribute’ the national committee members have donated their one month salary to the National COVID-19 resource pool, it added.
