ADDIS ABEBA – Abe Sano has been reappointed as President of the state-owned Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE).
Abe – head of Ethiopian Bankers Association – replaced Bacha Gina who is expected to serve as government envoy.
He accepted the federal government’s request to head Ethiopia’s biggest bank for the second time.
“It feels like coming home,” Abe told state-affiliated FBC after his appointment.
Prior to his latest appointment, he was serving as president of Oromia International Bank (OIB).
Abe left CBE in 2008 and was replaced by Bekalu Zeleke, who had been working as vice president under him for two and a half years.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia is the oldest and largest bank in Ethiopia, serving over 20
million account holders.
