ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed has made a new cabinet shakeup that saw trade and education ministers lose their positions.
Fetlework Gebregziabher has been replaced by Melaku Alebel as Minister of Trade and Industry, according to the PM office.
Prior to this, Melaku was served as Amhara Regional State’s Industry and Investment Bureau head with the rank of Vice President.
Abiy has also shifted Getahun Mekuria (Dr-Ing) from the Ministry of Innovation and Technology to the top position at the Ministry of Education. The position was held by Tilaye Gete (PhD).
The PM has filled in Getahun’s place with Abraham Belay (Ph.D.), who was CEO of Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP). Prior to that, Abraham also served as deputy director of the Information Network Security Agency (INSA).
The statement does not say about the fate of Fetlework. But Tilaye has already taken up a new role as Deputy Permanent Envoy for the UNESCO with a rank of Minister Plenipotentiary at Ethiopian Mission in Paris.
Their appointment is effective Jan.15, 2020, according to the PM office.
