Dubai-based Firm to Produce Election Documents for Ethiopia
ADDIS ABABA – The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has continued its preparation for the 2020 national poll with its first agreement to procure secured and standard election documents and materials.
Wednesday’s memorandum of understanding signed with Dubai-based company will strengthen the board’s push to use modern and credible materials while conducting the election.
The publication will ensure that the election process to be internationally standardized; meets the requirements stated in the new electoral law; minimize possible errors and to avoid fraud, and to make it understandable and easy to enforce for election officials, says the NEBE in a statement.
Accordingly, it says the documents will have a security feature and can not be fraudulently copied.
The voter card will be produced in a way half of it given to voters and half of it remaining at the election officials.
“Each voter has their unique ID number, and all documents are published in five languages: Amharic, Amharic / Tigrigna, Amharic / Afar Oromo and Amharic / Somali,” says the board.
The Board’s statement does not name the company but said it has enough experience working electoral bodies in many African countries including Kenya, Uganda, Malawi and Zambia.
