Authority Signs 6bln Br worth Road Construction Deals

ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopian Road Authority and four Chinese companies have signed contracts to carry out road construction projects worth over 6 billion birr.

The road projects with a total of 299 km length will be constructed in Amhara, Somalia, SNNP and Oromia regional states.

Accordingly, the 76.6km long Hamset-Aste road in the Amhara region will be built by Ningxia Communication Construction Co. Ltd at a cost of a little over 1 billion birr.

The second Chulase-Soyama road project in SNNP Region will have 79.5km length. The one billion birr worth project has been awarded to China Railway 14th Group Co. Ltd.

The project will be finished in three years, according to the contract.

The third Adele-Girawa project to be built in the east Harrgae zone of Oromia region will be 55km long . Hibe China Construction Company will carry out the construction at a cost of a 1 billion birr within three-and-half years.

The fourth Gode-Qelafo road construction project in Somali region will have about 88.5km length. South East China Company will build the road at a cost of over 1 billion birr.

The construction companies and officials of the road authority singed the contract agreement on Thursday in Addis Ababa.

The Chinese firms said they will start working on the projects soon after the signing processes are over.

“We have all equipment as well as human resources ready and are ready to start it,” said Tan Wangting, deputy general manager at South East China Company.

After singing the deals, Habtamu Tegegn, director-general of the authority, has called for public support while the constructions are underway.

The authority revealed its plan to initiate 87 major road projects in the country soon. “I hope local construction companies will participate in these projects,” he said.
