Ireland Agree to Finance Ethiopia’s Safety net Program

ADDIS ABEBA – Ireland and Ethiopia signed a financing agreement of 332 million Birr for Productive Safety Net Program 4 (PSNP 4).

The agreement signed between Ethiopia and the Republic of Ireland at a ceremony held at the ministry of finance (MOF) on Friday.

The finance aimed to enhance and improve vulnerable and food insecure households’ livelihood, resilience to shocks, food security and nutrition, said Admasu Nebebe, state minister of finance.

“I hope the Ireland government will continue its development support,” said Admasu.

The finance will be implemented in four regional states – Amhara, Tigray, Oromia and South Nation Nationalities and Peoples regions.

The number of beneficiaries in PSNP 4 this fiscal year are expected to reach 7.9 million food-insecure people from about 2.5 million households in 382 districts of eight regions.

Cooperation head of Ireland government, Patrick McManus said: “the financing agreement will continue depending upon the Ireland economy”.

The PSNP 4 program runs from 2015 to 2020 and this agreement is for the year of 2019/2020 alone.
